gospel change in the Great Plains
Building bridges to people
Would your view of GCC change if you saw us as a missionary outpost for Jesus in the middle of a foreign culture? If you saw GCC as an outpost, would it make you want to shore up the defenses and bring out the big guns? Or would you be
inspired to build bridges to the people around us?
I wonder how Gretna would be different if every professing Christian who lives in Gretna committed to becoming exclusively dedicated (yes, like marrying a church versus dating it) to a Gretna church. I’m talking about all the people who ship out of town for church, and the people who date their church.
I wonder how Gretna would be different if every professing Christian in Gretna took one hour once a week to sit and talk with someone who doesn’t know God. And I’m not talking about sitting down to witness to them or give them a tract, but sitting down to find out what they worry about and are excited about and afraid of. Check out 1 Peter 3:15 in context as you consider this idea.
I wonder how Gretna would be different if we as Christians took a stand on illegal drugs. If not illegal drugs, what is the sin Gretna loves to love? Do we know our neighbors well enough to know? Perhaps it is the sin of being an island to ourselves, individualistic? Perhaps it is materialism, believing our entire existence is signified by our paycheck?
I am excited about Jesus and I am excited about Gretna coming over to the winning side someday. Anybody with me here? I am asking this question: who is committed to being a missionary to Gretna?
